My Students

Problem solving for a five or six year old can be very challenging at times. Add in the fact that over half my class speaks a language other than English at home and that just makes it that much harder.

My students are an amazing group of five and six year olds that have a desire to learn.

Over 84 percent of the students at my school qualify for free and reduced lunch, and are very diverse. In my class alone I have over 70 percent of English language learners. This makes it difficult at times to meet every one's needs because I don't speak their languages. We are a small school compared to others in the district, but we all support each other as much as possible. Parent involvement is difficult during the school day because most parents are working one or even two jobs for their family. Overall, we are a great school that lacks resources that we need and deserve in order for our students to be successful.

My Project

I am requesting hands-on centers, timers, and a pocket chart to help my students with Problem Solving and number sense fluency. These resources will be an amazing help for my students because they will actually get to have their hands on the problem and get to use manipulatives to help solve it. My students will be able to use timers to help them with their number fluency and practice their counting. The pocket chart will allow us to do activities as a class and have it more accessible for all the kids to see.

The students in my class deserve to have materials that are new and exciting to use in their Kindergarten experience.

As a teacher I want the kids to be excited to come to school and want to learn. They work so hard and I want them to have the best materials I can get. DonorsChoose has been an amazing program, and with previous projects I have received, the kids are always asking when they can use the materials. They are so appreciative of every little thing.
