This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Sometimes drawing on a computer with a mouse just doesn't have the same feel as using a pencil. This new Wacom Tablet would allow students to draw their digital creations directly into any software program instead of using a mouse.

I am the art specialist in a kindergarten through fifth grade arts school.

We are located in one of the poorest rural areas of the state. Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. I see about 975 students every week, from kindergarten though grade five. All of the students receive free or reduced priced lunch. The student population is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. About 70% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language.

My Project

Having a digitizing tablet would allow students to create illustrations using a digital pen rather than the traditional mouse method of drawing in graphic programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator. Using a pen and tablet will give a little more control when "painting" on the screen. This would provide another option for the students in Graphic Design to create logo, product, architecture, animation, and web based design projects. Many students are very comfortable drawing on paper, but have a difficult time applying the same artistic skill to their digital art. This Wacom Tablet would be perfect for bringing in these creative students.

Our students don't always have access to the resources that they might use when they go on to college and pursue careers in the field of computer graphics and the arts.

This digital tablet would give them the opportunity to experience current technologies that are being used in the digital world.
