Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When is it too young to learn about our culture? Multicultural activities are taught as early as Kindergarten. As a Kindergarten teacher I am required to make multiculturalism one of our daily subjects. The topic must be part of our thematic based activities. Creating lessons to connect to the state standards is the main goal. Making it all meaningful and understood is the challenge.
This challenge becomes greater each year because the supplies are not given to us. We must go out and buy our own materials to help us teach the lesson. This is really challenging when the funds are low. We put together a curriculum but we are required to get our own materials.
Why should the children suffer without materials in Kindergarten? This is why I am seeking the materials I need to create a beneficial learning environment for the future generation of students that enter my classroom. Some materials that I can use are multicultural puppets, a picture globe, and big books that have lots of pictures.
Kindergarten is the beginning of a long educational process. I feel that at this age children are still absorbing lots of information from their environment, peers, and adults around them. Why not fill them with all the information they need to learn about other people of the world and around our community?
Together, let's fill their minds with the tools and information they will need when they reach the third grade and the state exams are asking them about the people that made this great country. You might be asking, Why is this teacher thinking of third grade when she is teaching Kindergarten? Early childhood education is the foundation in education. If I as an educator am not setting a strong foundation NOW in Kindergarten what will happen later?
Please help me build a strong multicultural foundation with informative materials so that the students I teach can leave Kindergarten knowing as much or more then they should about our self and others in the world!! Bless you for even considering my proposal. Hope to hear from you soon.
