This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you know the feeling when there is something you want to say but you just can not find the right words? It happens everyday for my students who need to express what they have learned in History class but do not yet have the language to do so.

My students are all English Language Learners who have arrived in this country within the past two to three years.

They represent a vast array of countries and speak over 5 languages. They attend a High School, where this aspect of their character is appreciated and embraced. I teach these students Global History, a subject that can be complicated and confusing in a native language. They need to learn and understand the importance of geography, cause and effect, and ancient cultures in a language they are still at the beginning stages of learning.

My Project

These materials will allow all of my students to express and display what they have learned when they do not yet have the words. I truly believe that each student is learning and retaining the concepts of Global History. However, they do not always have the language to express this in spoken or written words. For this reason, art has become a large part of my classroom. Something as simple as the ability the express understanding of a vocabulary word through a picture has enriched the classroom and learning. The markers, paper, glue, and posters requested will allow this part of my Global History classes to come alive. The addition of a classroom camera will also allow us to capture these moments as we move into a digital age.
