This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Mindfulness creates space, changing impulsive reactions to thoughtful responses."
- Mindfulschools.org.
Imagine how different your life would be if you learned how to manage your reactions to stress and strengthen your attention at a very young age. Incredible, right?
I teach in a self-contained 12:1:1 special education classroom this year.
The students are in kindergarten and first grade. They have a range of special needs.
Although they struggle to practice self control and have difficulties focusing and maintaining attention, they are eager to learn and participate. They would melt your heart with their smiles, but they need help with regulating their emotions, dealing with frustration, and maintaining focus in the classroom.
My Project
I have requested a class set of yoga mats, a meditation bowl, and books that will help my students to manage stress, become happier, kinder, and focused in class. I know that practicing mindful movements and mindful listening will give my students the tools they need to cope with having special needs in a fast moving classroom. I can't wait to push the desks to the side and allow students to lay their new yoga mats out on the floor.
Inviting children who have such a difficult time quieting their bodies and minds for long periods of time at their desks, to practice yoga moves, while in a comfortable, safe space of their own, will be empowering and inspiring! Students will be able to use the meditation bowl to invite the bell to sing as they practice mindful listening.
These requested resources are priceless to us!
So, do you have it in your heart to lend us a hand on this project?
Your support will make a difference in the lives of the students who struggle to stay focused and practice self control.
I promise to use the yoga mats and meditation activities to help my students manage stress, become more focused and get better at being kind to themselves and others - if we could just get funded and get to work! Thank you so much!
