"A picture is worth a thousand words," that's how that old adage goes. My students have so much to say, but often lack the words. Please help them tell their stories!
My students are amazing!
They are energetic, motivated, funny and enthusiastic second graders. They come from a wide variety of backgrounds. My room is a "blended classroom," combining gifted and talented, special education, ESL students and general education students. The majority of the students at our school live below the poverty line. The students come from a wide range of environments, some print and technology rich, some completely devoid of each. My students want to express themselves, and I want to give them every tool I can to help them do so.
My Project
I am requesting a photo printer, paper and ink to give my students the opportunity to print out their pictures and use them to enhance their writing and express themselves more clearly. My students were blessed with four digital cameras through a Donor's Choose grant. We would love to be able to print out those photos in color, and use them to enhance their projects, their writing and their memories. Many of my students struggle to find the words they want to use for a variety of reasons. Having a photo they have taken in front of them, will help them to remember details, give them an example of what they are trying to describe or express and a way to ask for help if they are struggling to find the words. This printer will also give my students a way to document their learning through the year.
"A picture is worth a thousand words," that is a powerful, powerful thing.
It is even more powerful for a child who struggles daily to find a way to communicate. Please help my students express themselves, in every way that they can!
