My school is located in a small rural town near the coast. My school is a Title I elementary school serving over 700 students with students receiving free lunch and breakfast. Many small students today are dealing with big emotions and feelings that they do not know how to process yet. I temporarily brought my son's weighted bear to school this spring to use with one of my students that sometimes has a hard time settling down and calming himself. This has been a game-changer for him and the rest of my class. I'd like to add a few more animal options for all of them to be able to utilize when they need them. Giving them an option of plush dogs, bears, dinosaurs, and a pig will give them a choice in calming.
While this may not affect the climate of the world, providing my students with tools to self-regulate will affect the climate of our classroom.
Help me to provide them with an environment that is rich with learning opportunities.
