Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Staten Island elementary school servicing a multicultural population of students from varying socioeconomic backgrounds. Music and the arts have been a powerful unifier in our school.
"Everyone should be able to make music; it's the cosmic dance." - Harold & Maude
My students are eager to participate in the arts, and that is a big focus in our building. Our children demonstrate all kinds of talents beyond their academics, and we try our best to offer as many extracurricular activities as part of a well-rounded education.
My Project
We recently received iPads for our students' STEM classroom and are now looking for a charging cart that will keep the devices in one place and will also keep them charged up and secure. My chorus members use technology daily, and this will ensure they have constant access throughout the day as they work on their coding skills, music projects, or digital literacy tasks!
This cart will guarantee that our devices are fully charged and ready to go for each lesson so that students are able to implement technology into all of their class activities.
Our thirty-two iPads currently need to charge on a rotating basis in two available outlets. Even with the use of power strips, it is not possible to charge all of our iPads at the same time in the same location, and the cords are constantly getting tangled and twisted. Having a lockable cart will give students a designated spot for their assigned iPad. A cart can safely charge the devices all at the same time. Having this equipment will make managing our technology even more effective, and as a result my students will be able to spend more time creating.
