Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students with Autism and Down Syndrome are part of a school community of approximately over 500 students who attend school eager to learn. They enjoy daily learning academic, social, problem-solving, mental, and gross motor skills.
They also enjoy and love participating in Special Olympics and visiting their neighboring friends while participating in some friendly competition.
My students are inquisitive, passionate, eager, and motivated to learn independently while participating and learning good sportsmanship.
My students love and enjoy participating in Special Olympics. This is our primary field trip of the year. Special Olympics allows students with disabilities to succeed in physical events, social skills, and sportsmanship.
We only have access to one (1) set of bowling pins and balls for our students to practice beforehand. We teach our students about waiting their turn, but we feel that if we had two (2) sets, their anxiety and ability to stay would be lowered, and they would be more successful.
We will also utilize the sand, water table, and swing as outdoor learning areas for students to learn more about sports. Many of our students are kinesthetic learners, so they can learn more about the different sports they are introduced to while moving their bodies and exercising.
These items would upgrade their Special Olympics experience while allowing them to learn about the sports kinesthetically and succeed!
