My Students
Have you tired to show and edit photos or videos on a computer and it doesn't work correctly? Are you used to waiting or having programs crash? That is what I am going through depending on unreliable technology. I want to teach a stop animation project but we need a new computer that we can rely on.
I am the Art specialist in a K-5 Arts school.
We are located in one of the poorest rural areas of the state. Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. I see about 975 students every week, from Kindergarten though grade five. All of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The student population is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. About 70% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language.
My Project
My students need a new computer customized specifically to edit photos and videos. Up until recently, we were using a great computer that we received until one day it just stopped! Now, I bring my personal laptop to school and use it. It is nice but not fast enough to process my personal files and my students! This computer is so powerful if that it will last for many years to come. It has the extra memory we need, a larger hard drive and an upgraded processor that we can't simply buy off the shelf. Many of my students are interested in technology and want to create their own video games and this would help us beyond belief.
Most of my students' families do not have a computer at home, Internet access, some don't have a car to get to school.
Yet, being technology savvy is very important in nearly every job in today's market. Besides using this new computer to help educate my students about art, they are also becoming familiar with cutting edge technology. This computer will not only help my students succeed in my class, but prepare them for success in future jobs.
