My students need, sadly enough, very basic tools. We need 6 pencil sharpeners for the entire 3rd grade, and dry-erase markers so students can use the whiteboards.
Where do I even start? It's so very sad that I have to request such basic items from donorschoose.com. I know that everyone else is facing some pretty hard times, but it's so extreme in our district, that we can't even order pencil sharpeners and white board markers. We were denied our requests.
I teach in a very poor district in Pennsylvania.
Most of our students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Although our teachers enjoy the challenges and rewards of teaching our children, we are starting to lack the necessities that are basic for most classrooms.
My Project
We so desperately need pencil sharpeners in the third grade classrooms. How are students supposed to write the wonderful ideas in their heads without a sharpened pencil? How can they succeed at math and science if they can't write down problems, or keep a science journal? Do you remember how exciting it can be to use the "teacher's whiteboard?" I can't even let my students practice their math because I have such limited resources when it comes to teaching materials. This wish is not only for my classroom, but for all of the third grade classrooms in my hallway, including one special education classroom. Your donation will impact over 150 children each school year! These pencil sharpeners come with a 7 year warranty. 7 years times 150 students equals 1,050 students. I know that many teachers can only afford to buy cheaper models that only last a few weeks, but having these heavy duty ones would be so unbelievably amazing. Please help us to help our already underprivileged ones.
Our children have the abilities to do amazing things.
Unfortunately our school district does not have the funds to help them to their fullest potential. I know I speak for all of the third grade teachers when I say that we spend large amounts of our own money to help these children, but when it comes to the expensive items, our hands are tied. They all have their lives to lead also. Once again, I ask for your help. We don't have many people to turn to. Please help us make these dreams a reality.
