My students need organizational tools such as hall passes, shelves to store our supplies, and a pencil sharpener to start the new school year.

My Students
Have you ever tried writing a story without a pointy pencil? Or carefully tried to put your new favorite reading centers on a shelf and realized that there is no room for them anywhere? Help my students to answer "no" to these questions by funding organizational supplies for my class!
My students are wonderful!
Most of my students live within a few blocks of the school, a very diverse neighborhood, containing large African American, Asian American, Hispanic, and Caucasian populations. My school is a title one school, and over 80 percent of students at my school qualify for free or reduced lunch. Some of my students have two parents, some have one, and some live with grandparents. Some of my students have many books at their house, and some have no books at all. Almost half of my students are English language learners, two have individual education plans, and one student in our emotionally and behaviorally disturbed classroom comes to my class for many academic subjects.
My Project
After my students left for the summer, I finally had the time to take a full week to go through all of the left over belongings from old teachers and organize my classroom. Although we have many wonderful supplies to help us to learn, I believe that items like a shelf to put our games and centers on, hall passes, and an electric pencil sharpener, will make it easier for my students and I to find what we are looking for and to keep our room neat. This organization will make it easier for me to teach routines and expectations at the beginning of the year, which will in turn make our classroom feel more organized and calm though out the year, resulting in more classroom time focused on learning and less on behavior management.
Please help my students and me to learn in a more organized classroom!
For many of my students, this classroom has more structure than anything else in their lives. It is incredibly important for their learning to teach them daily routines that they can count on at school. Teaching these routines will be much easier if we have the things that we need to keep our classroom neat!
