Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Organization is like exercise. It's not very effective if you do it only once; you have to keep at it." My students work at large tables and lack the storage space to keep their materials organized and easily accessible. They are unable to find what they need quickly to complete their assignments.

My students are amazing!

They are responsible, hardworking, and enthusiastic about learning. We are a kindergarten classroom of 29 students in a large urban school district. There are students from different socio-economic groups, and many that speak English as a second language. Our school is in it's 5th year of operation and its amazing to see how far we have grown. The students in my classroom get a lot of support from their parents at home who make the time to do homework with their children and volunteer in the classroom.

My Project

My students have access to a wonderful array of supplies. What they don't have are ways to organize the materials that they do have. They work at large rectangular tables that offer no storage for materials. As a result, the students are losing supplies, unable to find folders, and generally lack the organization skills to be a more productive student. The pockets for their chairs will help the students by creating a space for them to store folders, work, activities, and much more! They will learn how to organize their own personal space and because it's on their chair they will have access to all materials at the drop of a hat.

This project is important because it is teaching students to be more organized and responsible for their things.

Many of my students get pulled out for extra help and support. Often times they have nowhere to put their work that they need to practice. These chair pockets will be a great place for them to store materials that they can get to when their group is pulled out for extra help.
