This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of the students in my classroom come from low income households. They are faced with many challenges every day. Many of their families are working two jobs. They are not fortunate enough to have had experiences that many of us take for granted.
My students are enthusiastic learners.
They enjoy activities that get them out of their seats. They really work well together on any group project. They come to school ready and eager to learn, which makes our day go by so much easier.
My Project
The rise in childhood obesity is very real to me, as I observe many of my students struggling to run for extended periods of time. So many of my students are not getting their recommended daily physical activity. The only physical activity they have is at school.
Having a good physical education program in the classroom is the key to motivating kids to stay active and fit.
I feel that my students really need to be aware of their running times and work on improving their pace. My students will be taking the fitness test this year and in order to have them be prepared, they need the proper equipment. Having enough stopwatches per pair of students will ensure that they are able to track their improvement in running times. This will help us work on the Presidential Youth Fitness Program.
