Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Since I've started teaching here, our students have not had the opportunity to experience sculpting with clay. Last month we received another school's old working kiln! We unfortunately cannot use that kiln without your help. We need shelves, clay, and glazes to get sculpting!
Our elementary is a small neighborhood school right outside of downtown Nashville.
Most of our students walk to school, and 99% receive free and reduced lunch. Our students also receive clothing donations twice a year from a sister school from a more privledged community. Our student population is also 50% English Language Learners. One common language that we all speak is art. Despite the disadvantages our student's face, they are bright shinning stars that deserve the same opportunities as other students in well-funded schools.
My Project
Your donations will help provide our art program with the proper materials needed to run our ceramic kiln, and the students with the clay and glazes needed to create ceramic sculptures.
Clay is part of our district's art curriculum. Unfortunately, the district does not provide my school with the budget for me to support that curriculum.
Clay is one of those wonderful media's that is very therapeutic to students, and has helped me personally through tough times in my life.
I want to give the students the opportunity to forget about the hardships in their lives and get lost in creating in clay.
