This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are starting a music program in our school. There are no musical instruments and the students are excited about singing. By the end of the school year, the students want to put on a concert for their parents. The biggest challenge we face is we don't have a digital piano.
Our school is in New York City.
It is a very small high school with about 610 students and almost half of them are taking music this year. All 610 students are classified as economically disadvantaged. They are wonderful students who are eager to learn how to read music and love to sing.
My Project
The digital piano, sustain pedal, music stand and keyboard bench will help students rehearse in Chorus and prepare them for their end of the year concert. We are starting to build a music program in the school and I am a first year teacher. Students will learn how to read music and sing. The students need the digital piano so that they can do warm-ups, and sing with a piano accompaniment. Every student I have in chorus this year has no music experience and I want to build a strong music program for the school. The students want it and they deserve to have that opportunity.
The donations to our project will make our classroom look like a music classroom!
Students will be able to sing in a chorus and practice with a digital piano. They deserve to have this opportunity because they are eager to be a part of the start of our school Chorus. They are wonderful students who deserve to put on a performance for their family and peers.
