Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
HES is a new school located in Saginaw, TX. We opened in August of 2023. We are a Title I campus, meaning more than half of our students are on free and reduced lunch. Our campus is quickly growing and we are excited to start our UIL Chess Team this year.
Chess has many benefits for children: improved memory, concentration, organization, and problem solving.
Not to mention increased self-confidence and sportsmanship. Chess also directly supports math with x-y axis, pattern recognition, algebraic notation etc.
Your support will enable us to purchase 6 physical chess sets for the team to use in practice. Students learn chess more quickly when they can feel and touch the pieces (as opposed to a digital game) as well as it is an opportunity to disconnect them from tech.
