This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Children are born with the need to express themselves, but what happens when there are more than thirty students in a kindergarten classroom and only one teacher to listen to all of them?
My students hail from a high-poverty neighborhood; therefore, replenishing basic school supplies is often a hardship for my students' parents.
Due to their financial circumstances, our students often lack essential school supplies which causes them to fall behind their peers.
My Project
My students need writing journals, colored printed paper, and magnetic borders to display work on our whiteboard. With these journals, my students will learn about expressing their ideas using pictures and writing. We will use these journals the entire year so they can track their progress, thus becoming accountable for their work. We will also use the magnetic borders to display important announcements and work on our whiteboards.
Having these resources will help my students learn the importance of expressing their ideas on paper.
They will be able to see their improvement on a daily basis by keeping all their writing pieces together, as opposed to using the folders that they are now expected to keep. Finally, with these journals, paper, and magnetic borders, I will be able to teach my students that if they have something worth saying, they have something worth writing!
