There are no words to describe the pride and joy I feel as I watch my students engage in hands-on activities. "Lab Day" is by far their favorite day of all in my class. We face a shortage of materials, however, when it comes to one lab day in particular.
Call me biased, but my 8th graders are simply the best.
They inspire me to teach better, be better, and to become a lifelong learner myself. Their love and passion for hands-on learning is contagious, and I would love nothing more than to meet this need more often for them.
My Project
Our favorite lab day is when we work with electricity and magnetism. My students rotate around the room to various stations incorporating and applying what they've learned and know about electricity and magnetism. Their all-time FAVORITE station is the Electronic Snap Circuits. The students use these to build many different types of circuits and cannot get enough. The sheer disappointment is obvious as I announce that it's time to rotate to the next station, simply because they want to keep working with the circuits.
I would love to have enough Electronic Snap Circuits to have an entire lab day dedicated to working with them alone.
I can talk about series and parallel circuits all day, but when the students get to make discoveries and experiment on their own...there's nothing quite like it. Please help me make this happen!
