Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students that I teach are learning pre-algebra standards every day. They are each unique and bring character that creates our three different "cohorts": Bruins, Boilermakers, and Trojans. Each class is about 30 students.
My students are working with an inquiry-based curriculum where they work through a real-world problem to discover fundamental mathematical concepts.
Our work is primarily collaborative and much of our discussions are student-led. My students love presenting their work to the rest of the class and asking insightful questions that help the rest of their class better understand.
My Project
Since our class is inquiry-based, we rely on student presentations and the ability to show our work for the majority of our class time. My students love sharing their work with others and gain confidence from working in groups to present different methods for working through a problem.
An A/V cart in the room would allow us to hold the document camera and whatever work they present in class.
Currently, our document camera is held on the computer cart which does not allow much flexibility when students are grabbing their computers in the morning. We would greatly appreciate any help that you can give us towards our goal of being fluent mathematicians.
