Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are just turning 5. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting. Some of the students have special learning needs, and many are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line and rely on our free meal plan for their children's breakfast and lunch.
Our school is a high poverty, Title I school, with high expectations for all.
Each day, we practice letters, phonics and sight words. We study science and math. We incorporate technology through the use of iPad apps, and we learn beginning engineering concepts through the use of building blocks and other manipulatives. At the end of the school day, the children are so excited to see their parents and tell them all the things they did at school. The parents are very supportive, and they enjoy spending time with their little ones, reading stories and learning new things.
My Project
We are requesting a class set of t-shirts printed with our school logo and a picture of our mascot, Mighty Mustang. These t-shirts will be worn throughout the year. They will be perfect for class trips and will make the students more visible and identifiable in crowded museums and zoos. We will also were them at school assemblies and special programs in which parents will attend and we will look like a unified group.
The t-shirts will also instill a sense of pride and of belonging to a school community.
In addition, we are asking for a couple of much-needed items to restock our dwindling supply. The requested paper towels and plastic gloves will help keep our classroom environment clean and sanitary. This makes for healthier students and improved attendance!
