it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you know what it's like to read a book and not be able to visualize it??? My students face this issue everyday.
My students are inner city high poverty special needs students that have great drive and motivation to excel.
Despite all of their outside challenges they manage to come to school on a daily basis and put their best foot forward however, they just need a little hurdle help to get through their academic studies.
My Project
The students in my class are thirsty for knowledge and have always accepted any challenge that I put in front of them. However, due to their significant delays in reading at times it is hard for them to comprehend text and create a mental picture of what the author is describing. As a result I would like them to have another source of getting the information in the novels that we read. The funding of this project will allow my students to read these books which we have in the classroom and at the completion of them watch the movie so they can have a visual as well. Once my students are able to see movies associated with the books we are reading in class a light bulb goes off and they get points, themes, and messages the book was trying to get through to them. In watching these movies they are also able to compare them to what they read in the book and point out differences between the two, which always puts a smile on my face.

These DVDs are ones that I will be able to use with future classes as well as share with other classes within my school.
