I will be teaching a class of multicultural fourth graders that are a mixture of ELD, Special Needs, and Gifted students. They are eager students who are ready to learn and try their best.
Almost a third of our students come from low income families that cannot provide them with the resources they need to help give their children the best education possible.
These students are the ones on the free/reduced-price lunch list.
With the diverse students in my class, I always find myself modifying everything I teach.
My Project
We have been using the same ELMO reader and projector in our classroom for over 12 years. A few days ago, our ELMO document reader died on us. I was told that we currently do not have the funding to purchase a new one for this school year.
How can I successfully teach and model a lesson while saving my notes for the following lesson??
It is merely impossible. I have set standards in the class for procedures/notetaking and these past few days have been so difficult to get through my day. I have been writing my notes on the board for children to copy; however, at the end of the period I have to erase them before we move on to the next subject. But before, I used to write the notes in my notebook and the children were asked to copy it as we went to our lesson. If ever a child was absent, I would hand over my notes from the previous day and the child would copy it.
I use the document reader to project everything I do in my classroom. This is a great tool for modeling, taking notes, and showing examples as I teach. With the amount of technology we have these days, it is a disservice to the children when we do not provide what is needed to make them successful. I thank you in advance for your support; it is people like you who make a difference in our education.
