Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach special education in an title one school. My autistic students are very into themselves. Seeing specific pictures, including themselves, the bathroom, the office etc. will help them to become more aware of the world around them. I will then make a book of things around the school that they need to know and name. For instance the secretaries, the office, the principal, the librarian etc. I will post the name of the item or person in a 3-ring binder with a photo of that item or person to help them identify the things they need to know at school.
I use a program called GLAD or Guided Language Acquisition and Design. One of the things that is required in GLAD is pictures of the things we will study. This month we did American Heroes. I use my printer to print out pictures of the things we are studying, so I need ink cartridges. I would also use the cartridges to print out pictures of our field trips etc.
This helps the students with visual impairments, autistic children and even children with learning disabilities to be more aware of the world around them. It helps children who are English Language Learners to establish one to one correspondence between the picture and the new word.
My students and I would really appreciate any help that you can give us in purchasing these color photo cartridges. Thank you.
