My students need a document camera for projecting demonstrations onto the Promethean Board, a digital camera for documenting art projects, and watercolor paper.
Help us see! In the art classroom, it is very difficult to see teacher demonstrations, and students need to be able to see demonstrations in order to be successful. A projection camera and digital camera would remedy that problem. Students also need watercolor paper for painting.
My students get to come to art once a week for 45 minutes.
It doesn't sound like much time, however it is plenty to create several good quality art projects each year. These students come from a low-income area and deserve the opportunity to express themselves through the use of quality art materials. It makes school exciting for them to be able to express themselves through art. It also gives them something to look forward to each week.
My Project
I teach 550 students in grades 2-5. We have been fortunate to receive donated paint and paintbrushes. However, we need watercolor paper for painting. These students deserve to paint! It is so difficult for students to see the teacher model how to manipulate the paint on paper when the paper has to be lying flat on the table. I know that all of my students can't see the demonstrations properly. That is why I feel we need a projection camera. I could demonstrate underneath the projection camera and have the demonstration projected to the interactive white board. These students also need to be able to document their work. The use of a digital camera to document the learning process is a powerful tool. These students can photograph the process of creating their artwork and share via the class website. When they are home, they can look back at the website and be reminded of the process providing them the opportunity to work on their artistic skills!
These students will feel much more comfortable working on their artwork if they can truly see what I am doing with the paint, paint brush, and paper.
Sometimes they are afraid to try new things. I believe this is because it is hard for them to understand what they can't see. And in this digital world, students love to take photographs and use the Internet. These materials will impact all 550of my students (and future students), inspiring and motivating them to create amazing works of art.
