My kindergartners are enrolled in a dual-language program. They spend half their time learning in my classroom in English and then go to my teaching partners classroom where they continue learning in French. We have a class full of students from different backgrounds and different areas, who speak a variety of different languages at home.
My students are a curious and active bunch who are anxious to learn as much as possible every day!
They gobble up material as fast as I can give it to them and are always looking for more. My students love completing projects and playing games to help them learn and use their new skills. They are working together to become active members of our school community!
My Project
In Kindergarten, students spend a good chunk of time watching someone (a teacher, another student) model activities and sharing their work with the class. I've noticed in my classroom that when I'm modeling an activity in the front of the class many students struggle to see exactly what I am doing. This also happens when students are sharing their work. Their peers are constantly trying to run up and get a good look at the details in their work, which makes it difficult for students to share. Students love seeing their friends work and I want them to be able to do that more! I've recently learned that an excellent way to do this is with an Elmo Document Camera.
With this document camera, my students will get to see exactly what they need to do, and display their own work on the big screen for everyone to see!
Students will be able to project their work on the large screen and it will help them work on asking and answering questions about the details in their writing. This document camera will also help me show the students exactly how to do the activity without them needing to come up and get a good look at my work. I will be able to leave the example up on the board for students to refer back to throughout the task. These are just some simple examples of how this document camera will impact our daily routines and I am sure there are many more benefits we will find once we get it up and running!
