My students are full of curiosity and the drive to learn. I teach in a Philadelphia school and these students come from a variety of backgrounds. We always work together to solve any problems we might have. There are multiple classes for each grade and I teach reading and writing.
Each day students come to school excited to overcome any challenge that comes their way!
English can be a very tricky subject but my students do not let that stop them. They always try their best and try to find help when needed. The students use what they learn to become leaders both inside and outside the classroom.
My Project
This year I have been encouraging my students to better their reading habits and become more active readers. However, there were still a few students who still demonstrated very little interest in reading. When I asked these students why they didn't want to read the most common answer was that there weren't any books they found interesting.
Sparking a love of reading can be as simple as finding the right book.
I asked my students what types of books did they specifically want to read and they asked for novels about sports, "Diary of Wimpy Kid" books, and "I Survived" books.
Students who read more are on average better readers than peers who read less. These books will give students the power to increase their reading ability for their entire educational career. I have also requested a few teacher instructional books.
