This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend a public Kindergarten through eighth grade school in a high-poverty, urban community in New Jersey. They love music class and are great musicians. Even though we don't have a budget for new materials, we find creative ways to make music together.
We've had the same risers on our stage for over twenty years and desperately need new ones for our choral performances.
Our current risers are wobbly and unstable so it has gotten to the point that we don't use them any longer for fear of injuries.
My Project
In order for a chorus to be successful, the conductor and all of the members must be able to see each other during performances. It is crucial that the sound is balanced and everyone is with their appropriate voice part--something that is difficult to achieve without proper risers.
If my music program had high quality choral risers, there would be an improvement in our level of performances.
Since our current risers are too dangerous to be used, our performances are negatively impacted. Additionally, parents, teachers, and fellow students all want to be able to see each member of the chorus clearly, something that is impossible without risers.
