This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A typical day in our classroom consists of lots of reading time for children who love reading and desire to read new, interesting, engaging books. They are only asked to read 20 minutes a day and some come back to me every morning and tell me they have finished a chapter book overnight!
I hope that when my students leave an academic school year with me, I have helped them continue growing and loving learning from day one.
I have a variety of students who are excited to learn about the world around them! Some have needs that require intensive academic support; some have needs to continue their learning on track; some have a language barrier they are aiming to overcome, and some need the opportunity to be challenged.
I have a school that, unfortunately, does not get many resources provided through our district because we are not eligible. It is our curse to have high performing students. Unfortunately, our students still need attention and resources to continue thriving. Through donors on sites like these, teachers are able to get support from our community that wants to help children like ours; children who are demonstrating they are eager to learn and just need the resources to do so.
My Project
I am asking for book tape, book binding glue, labels, and storage bins to help me organize our classroom library that I have build up through the years, but has seen much wear and tear (many paperback books that wear easily) from allowing students to take them home for reading purposes. I hope to secure all books spines with tape to help them last longer, re-glue pages of books that have torn out, and use color coded dot labels to mark books/baskets with reading genre and reading levels in order for students to access them more easily. The additional bins will help store series of books (i.e. Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, etc.) I continue to order as students show interest in them.
Donations will make it possible to save and keep growing the classroom library as fast as the kids can read the books!
The library will continue changing the lives of current students as well as future students by providing them with a plethora of books to encourage their love of reading and learning.
