My Students

My students are very energetic and have so much potential. They come from many different cultures and countries. Several students are refugees, and most of them speak English as a second language. Many of them live in shelters and come from single-parent families. Several of them have grown up in poverty and have not had many opportunities due to circumstances out of their control. Some of them feel like school is their only safe place.

Despite these obstacles, my students are driven to improve their lives by being successful in school.

They yearn for highly engaging learning activities in order to help them understand the world around them. They want to be better than the circumstances they are growing up in. My students are learning that the only way to improve their lives is through education.

My Project

It is no secret that the past few years have created a learning deficit in children. From remote learning to masks in schools, this has been a time of unparalleled difficulty for many students. My students are finally back in school and are ready to learn in person.

Having the right materials in our classroom is essential to bridging the gap caused by the pandemic.

While my students were learning online, doing science experiments was hard. Materials were not readily available. Since returning to school in person, they have had many opportunities to learn science through models and experiments, however, they often require materials that we don't have just lying around in our classroom. These materials will help my students experience science in a new way.

Having an iPad in our classroom will allow me to gather more data about my students' reading levels. Several of my students didn't read as much during the pandemic, and this will allow me a more effective way to get them back on track.

My students also learn better when they have something tactile to use. Math dice and other manipulatives will be useful in small groups to enhance students' understanding of mathematics. Letter tiles will be helpful for students in sounding out words, making word chains, and coming closer to reading on grade level.

With these materials, I am confident that my students will be able to be successful, despite the obstacles that they have faced over the past 2 years.
