My Students
Children take great pride in listening to stories. Hearing a book on CD can help them see how the words on the page can come alive.
My students come from home where resources are limited.
They come to school each day eager to learn. Our school was heavily damaged from Hurricane Sandy and we have been temporarily relocated to another school building. All our materials, books and supplies were left behind as we were unable to retrieve anything. Not only are my students rebuilding at home, their school is in the same distress.
My Project
Our listening center will allow up to 8 children to listen to the same book at the same time. Following along as the narrator reads, helps the students focus on the sounds of words read without interruption as well as providing a model of fluent reading.
With this project of a listening center and books on CD, I am seeking to enrich my students through a multi-sensory experience with books.
Many books on CD are fun and motivating for children as they tend to have interesting sound effects and multiple narrators. They tend to emphasis on reading for pleasure rather than just a skill.
