My Project
My students are marvelous Makers! They love building, creating, and sharing their amazing ideas. One of the most popular tools in our Makerspace is the 3D printer. Seven years ago, when we launched our school, we invested in a small fleet of 3D printers. Over the years, and with two building moves in between, some of our machines have gotten damaged and broken down. It's time to rebuild our fleet.
Our 3D printers allow all of our students, no matter the grade, to learn important digital fabrication skills while expressing their creativity.
My 8th graders are busy designing items to sell as part of their capstone projects. My 6th graders are looking forward to creating custom keychains and designing tools. 5th graders can't wait to learn to navigate 3D space, and my 7th graders are excited to design their own 3D printed Bobbleheads.
3D design allows students to stretch their brains and begin to visualize in three dimensions. They learn valuable math skills checking the measurements of their designs and calculating the mass of their models. They get to share their creative ideas in new ways.
