My Students
I believe every child deserves the opportunity for an excellent education, and I am proud to partner with my school, other educators, families, and community leaders to strive toward this goal. I teach in a high poverty school zone in which 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. These amazing students need additional support because most of them come from low-income single family households of which many have little to no support or resources. Despite some of the challenges they face in and around their environment, every year my students come to school excited, full of life, and eager to learn.
My Project
Flocabulary offers educational content through rap. This online tool is an incredible resource to help my students learn about important language arts concepts (punctuation, nouns, author's purpose), math (addition, place value), science (states of matter, force and motion, ecosystems), social studies (holidays, famous people, maps, regions in the United States), and social issues (how to deal with frustration, how to join a group). This resource covers it all!
The students are engaged and are able to recall important information through the songs.
They can participate in activities related to the songs and can even create their own rap!
The students find Flocabulary to be vital to their daily routine with "brain breaks" which often feature Flocabulary videos. Students will request certain videos when they are struggling with a concept.
