This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in our Environmental Club are eager to make other students and the community around us more environmentally friendly.
Our school is an inner-city school that caters to recent immigrants.
Although our students are from such a variety of countries and backgrounds, they are so helpful to one another. They always work in groups and are always excited to come to school. Most of them are in school from 8:30 to 5:30, struggling to learn English, as well as content.
My Project
The Environmental Club will use these bags in order to promote the concept of reusing things. They will use these bags to help educate students and their families about the damage plastic bags do to our environment. We plan to use these bags as prizes for a variety of contests such as: the class that collects the most plastic bags for recycling, the class that collects the most empty milk cartons (for another reuse project), or simply for good attendance.
Students will learn to appreciate something as basic as a bag.
Hopefully they will make daily habits of recycling and reusing products at home and in the future as they do in school. If we can teach students to respect the natural world around them then I will feel confident they will be respectful to each other as well.
