My Project
We need soccer balls, basketballs, and volleyballs for recess and class building! I teach at a Title I school where nearly all of my students face economic hardship—and yet they come to school each day with energy, kindness, and a deep desire to learn and connect. My classroom is not just a place for academics; it’s a space where students learn how to express themselves, solve problems, and develop healthy habits for life. I also coach soccer, basketball, and volleyball at our school and see firsthand how powerful movement, teamwork, and play can be in helping students thrive—especially during unstructured times like recess.
For many of my students, recess is not just a break—it's a vital time to move their bodies, release stress, and build the social and emotional skills they need to thrive.
Recess is one of the few times during the school day when students can run, reset, practice their hobbies, and connect with each other. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough equipment for them to play the games they love. The few balls we do have are worn out or frequently disappear, leaving students with little to do—and too often, unstructured time turns into conflict.
By giving my students new soccer balls, basketballs, and volleyballs, you’ll be giving them much more than just equipment. You’ll be helping them build friendships, practice responsibility, learn communication skills, and burn off energy in healthy, positive ways. With this project, students will be able to develop coordination, teamwork, and resilience—on and off the field.
