I am an elementary speech-language pathologist. My caseload consists of preschool students who have articulation IEPs, two cross-categorical special education classrooms containing up to 26 students, and several K-5 general education students who receive speech and language services.
My students are diverse learners who come from a variety of backgrounds.
We work together in small and whole groups to build the very speech and language skills needed to be successful in school and beyond.
Many of my students have additional needs, such as attention deficit, sensory-based needs, and autism. My hope for my students is that when they leave me, they are able to successfully and confidently communicate with others in and outside of the school environment. With these additional resources, I believe the communication skills of my students will continue to grow.
My Project
I am requesting a thermal binding machine and related binding materials to provide more durably-bound activities to my students. Spiral-bound materials can fall apart more easily or become a distraction to some students. My hope is when I create social stories or visual for individual students that these items can last the school year and beyond. I am also requesting pocket folders for my new speech & language students. My present students utilize folders to organize data tracking, session work, and important papers throughout the school year.
Additionally, many of my students struggle with executive functioning.
By providing more durably-bound and organized materials, we will be more efficient with our time together and build organization skills within our speech & language sessions.
