Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My second graders are amazing. They are active and eager to learn. They are curious about everything, whether it be a new word or a rogue cricket that happens to wander into our classroom. My students are bright, resourceful, and full of imagination. Our school is in a very high poverty area where 98% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. Though my students do not have many resources at home, they come to school happy and excited to start the day. They are truly inspirational.

My Project

My students love to move and play. They enjoy playing games on the playground and in the classroom. I try to encourage my second graders to stay active and healthy. I showed them my Fitbit that I wear to keep track of my steps and let them know that walking is a great form of exercise. My students ask me all the time how many steps I have taken for the day and they cheer when I meet my step goals.

"I wish we could count our steps, too," mentioned the kids.

Unfortunately, purchasing Fitbits for my entire second grade class would be out of the question. However, the 3DFitBud Simple Step Counters are a great alternative. These pedometers are easy to use and very kid-friendly. My students would be able to use these step counters to track their own steps and encourage them to create (and reach) their own step goals.
