Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
These kindergartners love to be at school. They love to learn, and they love being an important part of their community. Nearly all the students that attend our school live in low-income households. At school, they work hard and continually push to make everyone they love and care about proud of them.
By providing these young learners with learning tools to help them make sense of the concepts that are learning, you can give them the gift of knowledge.
Number lines, tally marks, and ten frames help students develop a solid understanding of our base-ten system. The cards flash cards, playing cards, ten frame paper, centimeter cubes and base ten blocks will give students hands on opportunities to explore this complicated counting system. The magnetic number flash cards and the number line white boards will give students opportunities to build number sense and visually track changes in quantity as items are added to or removed from a group. Students will use these tools to build an understanding of addition and subtraction, and to develop fluency with addition and subtraction facts.
The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will be used to incorporate STEM into our literacy block. By utilizing familiar stories to access problems that need to be solved, students will complete engineering challenges to help the characters in familiar stories solve problems that occur in the story. In addition to these literacy based STEM challenges, the gift card and ink cartridges will also be used to print STEM challenge task cards for daily building, engineering, and problem solving challenges.
