My Students
It is never too late to expand the mind of a person on the autism spectrum." - Temple Grand
My students are smart, funny, caring and ready to learn .
I am an occupational therapist at a Title I school in Brooklyn. We are a public, high poverty school, with the majority of the students receiving free or reduced price meals at school. My students come from various ethnic backgrounds. The children on my caseload are in both general education and special education classrooms. These students have challenges like Autism, ADHD, and speech/language delays.
My Project
As occupational therapist I integrate in to their classroom in order to treat them in their natural environment. I help my students develop their physical, cognitive, psychosocial, and sensory skills in a variety of contexts that support their engagement in everyday life activities. In order to help my students develop their sensory-motor skills, I need sensory brushes to help calm my students so they are able to sustain and attend to tasks. This year most of my students are on autistic spectrum the Wilbarger Brushing Protocol will be used to help them attend to task. tolerate different textures, and improve body awareness . This will help them be more aware of their bodies and so that they can focus reading writing and math.
Your donation of the sensory material will help the children succeed inside the classroom and the school community.
You will also be opening up the world to a child with Autism.
