This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My student scientists keep a Lab Notebook when they do their investigations and practicums. They have always included pictures. We recently went to be a phone-free school (which has really improved engagement!) so students don't have an easy way to capture visibly what they are doing.
My students know the importance of good record-keeping in science and these cameras can make it possible for them to keep doing that.
These notebooks also serve as reference during their college careers and the pictures will make them even more effective. My students this year have done genetic engineering, DNA testing, soil testing, air quality testing, and studied ocean acidification. Some of our next labs include PCR and protein purification. I am really proud of how my students are pushing themselves to engage with science and I know this project can take their labs to the next level.
