This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine walking into a classroom and all the students are reading different books that interest them.
Every morning we start with a reading activity; whole group, partner or independent reading.
My students love to read, they want to learn to read, and I am determined to do everything I can to help them.
Our school is overcrowded and is located in a high poverty area. Parents are constantly working and do not have time to take their kids to the library to borrow books or sit down and read with them.
My Project
Our school is overcrowded, therefore we do not have a school library. I have made a small library in my classroom for my students so that they have some experience with a library and checking out books. My students are able to check out books to take home to read with their parents. I want to provide my students with a bigger and more organized library. That is why I am asking for book bins. Unfortunately, most of the book bins in my classroom library are broken or are about to break. Broken book bins can hurt my students by pinching or cutting their skin. New book bins that are heavy duty will allow my students access to a bigger and safer library. I am also asking for a rug to put in the library so that the students will have a comfortable place to sit and read the books they are choosing from the library.
More book bins will allow me to sort the books by genres so that the students can look for books specific to their own interests.
A rug will help to liven up not only the library area but will make the classroom more inviting to the students. Our school might not be able to provide my students with a school library, but I want to expose my students to a library in the classroom to support my students' love for reading.
