Help Us Make Biology Come to Life!

My students need lab supplies such as aprons, pH, humidity and PTC strips, office supplies such as paper, pens, tape, plus books, such as "The Brain That Changes Itself" and "Great Mythconceptions," and art materials to make models of cells, DNA and more!

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. S.'s classroom raised $2,015

This project is fully funded

My Students

Would you rather learn about cells, DNA, adaptations, and mimicry from a textbook or through hands-on activities? Now, imagine you were in 7th grade. My students need supplies in order to learn the fundamentals of biology!

Our Science department follows the principles of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education.

I present science concepts in various ways to meet the California State Science Standards. This year I am teaching 7th grade Life Science for the first time, so my classroom lacks the supplies for hands-on activities that will make Biology “come to life” for my students! The vast majority of my students love to learn, especially about science. They reflect the diverse area we live in, representing over 30 nationalities and languages. The majority of the students fall in the middle class, which means we do not have wealthy parents supporting us, nor do we have Title I funds pouring in. By funding this project you will impact the lives of 260 students this year, as well as those who will use the durable materials in years to come!

My Project

Throughout the year my students will use the office supplies in creative ways to demonstrate understanding of concepts, prepare presentations and keep all students accountable for their learning. Lab supplies such as test strips will enable them to investigate pH and genetic traits. Other requested materials will give them practice with measuring, making models, comparing, illustrating and classifying. We will also do several art projects to support the State Science Standards about cells, genetics and adaptation such as shrinky dink cells, helical DNA keychains, and a necklace that copies the color pattern of a poisonous snake and one that mimics the pattern but is harmless. The requested books will provide extra resources for students and make it feel like a life science classroom. Science, when experienced through art projects and hands-on investigations, is fun for students and strengthens their comprehension.

My middle school science students work hard to develop their skills.

Providing students with the requested supplies for practice and creativity will help them prepare for success in high school, college, and 21st century careers.
