This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with wonderful, inquisitive Pre-K children in a high need community. The children love to build things each day. Building with various items such as toys, art materials, blocks, and puzzles allows children to practice problem-solving, encourages abstract thinking, mathematical and scientific thinking. Building is also fun!
The only items to build with in our class is an old set of blocks and a few magnatiles that all of the children try to use at the same time. Building with these materials tends to attract the boys more than the girls as well. It is my goal to have enough materials for everyone to build with. I would also like to have building materials in different centers such as building through sculpture in art, building 3D puzzles, having building materials in our table toy center, and creating a more inviting block area. We need your help for that to happen!
To have building in art, our class needs magic nuudles, various small wood pieces, and wood craft shapes to encourage creative thinking and spatial relations. These materials will allow children to build sculptures that they can also paint and take home. In puzzles, we need 3D puzzles to encourage problem solving. In our table toys area, we need more magnatiles and a marble run (which they put together themselves) to encourage children to think about geometry (perimeter, area, shapes) and science (magnetism, gravity, force, motion) while building their wonderful creations. We also need castle blocks to encourage all of the above concepts, while the children dramatically play with the blocks and socialize.
You will make it possible for my students to learn new concepts and have fun at the same time by providing these materials to our class. The girls and boys will be motivated to build and make wonderful sculptures, houses, castles, whatever their imaginations allow them to make! All while learning important mathematical and scientific concepts in a fun way. Please donate to this cause. Thank you!
