it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In 2023, our team embarked on a successful project to create a sensory corner in each special education classroom and a sensory hallway to benefit all students at our school. The project was a huge success!
The sensory hallway and corners have brought immense joy to our students, giving them spaces to self-regulate and release energy.
However, due to normal wear and tear, the stickers on the floor are beginning to peel, and some materials are no longer functioning. Additionally, our school has seen an increase in the number of students on the autism spectrum, meaning the demand for these sensory spaces is growing. To continue supporting these students in the classroom and during transitions, we need your help to maintain our sensory spaces and create new ones to meet the increased demand.
The sensory corner provides students with a designated, private space to self-regulate when they feel overwhelmed. It allows them to use tools they’ve learned to calm down, so they can re-engage with peers, teachers, and the curriculum more effectively. Meanwhile, the sensory hallway is not just for students with sensory needs—it benefits all students by encouraging movement, improving motor skills, and offering sensory input. As students follow the path and complete the movements, they work off excess energy, improve coordination, and even reinforce math and language skills.
We believe that these sensory spaces are crucial for the success of our students, especially those with special needs. With your support, we can continue to provide these vital tools for our school community. Thank you for helping our students thrive in a supportive and engaging environment!
