Help Us Love Reading—Magazines Students Can Hold, Read... and Keep!
Help me give my students the excitement of being able to have a brand new magazine in their hands every week and the satisfaction that comes with physically closing it once they have read the final word.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are excited about learning!
Most come from low-income families where reading and other educational materials are luxury items.
Additionally, our class contains children from diverse backgrounds and circumstances. Many come from homes where English is not spoken or not spoken fluently, some are in the foster care system, and some have physical and/or speech challenges to overcome. Fortunately, at this age, all students benefit greatly from experiences and touchable, movable manipulatives, so I try to provide these opportunities as much as possible. When you donate to our classroom, you are changing lives! Thank you!
My Project
It is no secret that last school year was a challenge for many students and families. The little ones I have this year left for Spring Break their Kindergarten year and did not attend “normal” classes in a physical school building again until the tail-end of last year....and, in some cases, until this last week. As such, this year will be a critical “catch-up” year for my students, some of which are just now learning their letters and sounds.
There is nothing quite like the smell and touch of holding a brand new magazine in your hands—To encourage my beginning readers and build excitement and confidence in their reading abilities, I am asking for a variety of engaging, full-color Weekly Reader-type magazines that are targeted at both first and second grade reading levels.
Since it is anyone’s guess as to whether we will have to teach virtually from home again at some point this year, all of the classroom subscriptions I am requesting have both print and digital versions that will be available to my students, should the need arise.
In this project, I am requesting the following resources: First and Second grade Scholastic News Weekly Reader magazines subscriptions, the wonderful monthly Science Spin magazine, and the larger, 6-issue Storyworks publication that is available for second graders.
Any support you would be willing to give for this project would be much appreciated. Thank you for your consideration.
