Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This kindergarten class is full of incredible students. For many this is there first time ever in a structured classroom environment, and it is also their first exposure to the English language. They come from all over the world providing diversity, allowing us to celebrate our similarities and differences. My students are enthusiastic, curious, caring, and creative. These students are members of a Title I urban school in Richmond, CA, a school where all students qualify for the free breakfast and free lunch program.

My Project

To meet my students' many needs, I have small group stations every school day. One station for the children is the tablet stations where they get to use websites such as Starfall that helps them with math and reading skills. Yet without Bluetooth headphones it can get very hard for them to listen to the directions given. I have also collected a good amount of books on CD for the kids to read and listen to. However, the only other item I have for the listening station is a CD player. This means the entire class can hear it and they become loud as they talk over the sound of the CD player. The students listening to the books are easily distracted by their friends.

The headphones will help the rest of the class by providing a quieter environment for them to do independent work or work with me in a small group.

The wireless nature of the headphones will prevent the cord tangles that go along with that.

It is very important that my students hear as many books as possible since many do not have books at home. As well as to be able to play fun educational games that will help them with their math and reading skills. This project will help maximize their time and learning when they visit the listening and tablet stations!
