Help Us Learn With Technology

My students need 2 Chromebooks, 2 headphones, 2 mice, and 2 mouse pads to have more access to our differentiated adaptive learning sites, including Compass Learning and Front Row Ed.

My Students

My students are from an inner city section of Cleveland, known for unsafe streets. We focus on making safety one of our top concerns at school because a feeling of safety allows you to focus on learning while at school.

My students are fourth and fifth graders just trying to succeed in education with obstacles that we are trying to overcome to match our counterparts in more affluent areas.

I would like my students to be able to learn modern uses for technology such as Google Docs and online storage, to be ready for future careers.

My Project

Our school has added the use of Compass Learning for our students to have differentiated, adaptive lessons. However, the site requires about 60 minutes per child per week to be most effective. In order to get the most out of this and other websites, we need more access to computers in the classroom. Every Chromebook we get in the classroom allows more students time online per day. We can also use the Chromebooks to learn how to create Google presentations, similar to power point presentations for school projects.

These Chromebooks and headphones would allow students to get the most out of their online adaptive learning ,which allows each student to work at their own level and pace.

This will also allow the students practice on computers with mice before they take the Ohio State Test that is online as well.

I implemented the use of online, individualized, differentiated math practice and student scores increased dramatically last year. This year our school has purchased a license to an additional website that has differentiated practice for reading, science, and social studies as well.

I would like to have more technology access to have even greater gains this year, and in future years as well. This will also help to better prepare my students for middle school, high school, and adult life. My students are years behind in technology availability and understanding, compared to their suburban peers. I would like to lessen the gap, bringing my inner city students to a higher level of technology awareness.
