This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kindergartners need "just right" books to practice their emerging reading skills. These books need to have repeating text patterns and basic high frequency words.

My urban kindergartners often come to school in September without any prior schooling experience.

Their homes are not supportive of early learning, so many of them cannot even recognize their own names when written or identify letters of the alphabet. These children transform throughout the year and head off to first grade as readers!

My Project

These leveled books will provide students with reading practice at their "just right" reading level. These books aren't too easy and they aren't too hard! These books will be able to be used all year long. I instruct students in small reading groups at a level slightly higher than their independent reading level. These books will allow them to practice their learned reading skills independently. Every child should feel successful in literacy, no matter their reading level. Children feel so proud when they can read a book to themselves, a friend, or a family member.
