My students need hands-on materials and games to help them learn early reading skills and improve their vocabulary.

My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances. Many of them are eligible for free or reduced lunch. Some of them enter school for the first time speaking a language other then English.

I work with students in grades K-6.

For the youngest learners in our school, it is vital that they start off their school career successfully. For students who do not understand all that is occurring around them, this can also be a scary time. Many of my young students hear and speak English only when they are at school. Every moment is important in helping improve my students English proficiency and pre-reading skills.

My Project

I am requesting interactive pre-reading materials and games to help the youngest ESOL learners in my school. Kindergarten and first grade students learn best when they are engaged. The alphabet, phonemic awareness, vocabulary development, and phonics materials will help me to continue to make learning fun for my most energetic students.

Research shows that if students are reading on grade level before third grade, they have a much better change of being successful throughout the rest of their school career.

Please help me to give my young ESOL students all of the tools necessary to become readers.
