This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach an amazing group of curiosity-seeking, hard-working, school-loving students. They thrive despite the challenges they face daily like growing up in an area of low economic development or learning English as their second language. They grow by leaps and bounds in their year with me!

Like many districts across the country, we face budget cuts and there is just not enough money to supply resources for every classroom.

Our kiddos deserve to have the best! I have so many goals for them throughout the year-to learn mindfulness, grit, critical thinking, empathy in addition to our regular curriculum. They come to school every day so eager to learn about the world around them.

My Project

Kindergarten students learn best using hands-on activities. If they can manipulate the letters and sounds to make words, the information sticks with them better.They discuss with each other the discoveries they are making about the words..

All my students are at the very beginning of their reading journey.

One of the expectations is that they are reading over 60 high frequency words by the end of the year. With these games and activities I can make that word practice fun and exciting for them. They will be so excited to make "word sandwiches"and playing sight word bingo. They will complete word puzzles and jump from word to word competing to see who can read them the fastest.
